Description/extras: XD Group C Falcon with extensive racing history in period, numerous races at Bathurst between 1980 and 1984 with continued use into the 1990's, excellent entry level car for various iconic racing series, comes complete with original cams log book, current historic log book and cams cert of description. After taking the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1979 in the Ron Hodgson/Channel Seven LX A9X Torana, Bob Morris stepped into the new VB Commodore for the 1980 ATCC but after a year of mixed results with the VB – a win in the final round at Oran Park the only bright point in a long season of retirements – Morris cut his ties with Holden for the 1980 endurance races at Sandown and Bathurst. He then partnered with Bill O’Brien in O’Brien’s XD Falcon for the Hang Ten 400 at Sandown where the pair retired after 31 laps. Bathurst saw the XD borrow the old green/white A9X livery but with Channel Seven/Breville sponsorship with the race memorable in a few ways. The big talk of the race was Dick Johnson’s collision with ‘the rock’ and subsequent public outpouring of condolences and cash, but quietly, the Morris/O’Brien car became the first to run a three driver line-up when O’Brien graciously stepped aside to allow Allan Moffat a stint behind the wheel after Moffat’s Falcon expired early in the race. O’Brien then took over from Moffat with the car running to fourth place before engine issues dashed any hopes of a possible podium finish after 88 laps. O’Brien continued to campaign the car until the end of Group C in 1984 with mid-field Bathurst results and some points wins in the ATCC during 1982 and 1983.
