1972 Ducati Vento 350 A 1972 Ducati Vento 350 in full cafe-racer livery is exactly the kind of Italian single that stops the room. These lightweight Ducati singles from the early 1970s were the bikes that built the brand's image before the V-twins took over, and a correct Vento in this kind of condition is increasingly hard to find anywhere in the world, let alone in Australia. The Vento was Ducati's sporty street offering built around a 350cc single-cylinder OHC four-stroke engine, producing enough punch from its 4-speed gearbox to make riding one a genuinely engaging experience. These bikes were raced in Italian club events and enjoyed by enthusiasts who wanted something lighter and more nimble than the British competition. The Vento name itself translates to 'wind' in Italian, and the bike earns it. This example is presented in the full cafe-racer specification: the slim elongated red tank with the bold white arrow graphic, the single-seat rear hump in matching red and black vinyl, and a chrome megaphone silencer that sounds as good as it looks. The alloy spoke wheels are correct for the model and present cleanly. The Ducati chrome script badge and 350 side panel badges are all present and correct. Chrome on the fork stanchions is good with no visible pitting, and the exhaust system is bright and presentable throughout. The odometer shows an extraordinarily low 6,091 kilometres, which on a 50-year-old Italian single tells you this bike has been cherished rather than hammered. The engine cases look clean and dry with the DUCATI casting clearly legible. The Amal or Dell'Orto carburettor appears complete and in situ. The tyres will need replacement on age grounds regardless of tread depth, and the chain and sprockets should be assessed, but these are routine items. This is a bike for the Ducati collector, the Italian motorcycle enthusiast, or anyone who wants one of the most visually spectacular cafe-racers in this price range.
