PAIR OF BAROQUE STYLE CARVED STONE CONSOLE TABLE BASES

A PAIR OF SUBSTANTIAL CONSOLE TABLE BASES IN CAST STONE, EACH FEATURING ELABORATE BAROQUE-STYLE CARVED DECORATION. THE BASES ARE DESIGNED AS LARGE OPPOSING C-SCROLL VOLUTES WITH DEEPLY CARVED ACANTHUS LEAF, FLORAL ROSETTE AND SCROLLWORK ORNAMENT TO THE FRONT FACE. THE SIDES DISPLAY BOLD FLUTED SCROLLWORK. EACH BASE SITS ON A RECTANGULAR PLINTH AND SUPPORTS A FLAT RECTANGULAR TOP SURFACE.

THE FRONT FACE OF EACH BASE FEATURES A CENTRAL CARTOUCHE WITH ACANTHUS LEAF CRESTING ABOVE, FLANKED BY SCROLLING VOLUTES TERMINATING IN SPIRAL ENDS. BELOW THE CARTOUCHE, A CLUSTER OF CARVED CYLINDRICAL ELEMENTS IS FLANKED BY FURTHER FLORAL SPRAYS AND SCROLLWORK. THE CARVING IS EXECUTED IN HIGH RELIEF THROUGHOUT.

* PAIR OF MATCHING BASES, EACH DESIGNED TO SUPPORT A TABLE TOP (TOP NOT INCLUDED)
* RECTANGULAR PLINTH BASE ON EACH

CONDITION:
GENERAL SURFACE SOILING AND WEATHERING THROUGHOUT, CONSISTENT WITH AGE. MINOR CHIPPING AND LOSSES ARE VISIBLE TO THE CARVED SCROLLWORK DETAIL ON THE LOWER SECTIONS OF BOTH BASES. EDGE CHIPS ARE PRESENT TO THE TOP SURFACES. SOME STAINING AND DISCOLOURATION TO THE FLAT TOP SURFACES. THE CARVED DETAIL REMAINS LARGELY INTACT WITH CRISP DEFINITION TO THE ACANTHUS LEAF AND FLORAL ELEMENTS IN MOST AREAS.
