Overview
This 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8 is a comprehensively modified, high-output performance build featuring an extensively engineered DJZ-built 2.2-litre engine, Garrett GT42-1450 turbocharger, Quaife sequential gearbox and extensively upgraded AWD driveline. The vendor advises the vehicle produces approximately 820kW, equivalent to around 1,100 horsepower, with less than 2,000 kilometres travelled since completion of the current engine build.
This Evo is far removed from its original mechanical specification. The original engine and turbocharger setup are no longer fitted, with the current engine having been built by DJZ using an extensive combination of Nitto, CP, Kelford, GSC, Kiggly, ARP and supporting performance components. The vendor advises approximately $30,000 was invested in the engine build alone, with invoices provided documenting the work undertaken.
The engine has been built around a Nitto forged 2.2-litre stroker crankshaft, Nitto alloy connecting rods and custom Nitto/CP drag pistons. Extensive block preparation has been undertaken, including machining for the first oversize, half filling the block, machining the cylinders for alloy rod clearance, deleting the balance shafts and oil squirters, line boring the crank girdle and balancing the rotating assembly.
The cylinder head has also received an extensive fresh build and preparation, including decking, new valve seats, valve guides configured for E85, machining for oversized valves and performance porting designed to support more than 1,000 horsepower. GSC +1mm inlet and exhaust valves are combined with GSC zero-tick lifters, Kelford X Series valve springs, Kelford 280/288 camshafts and Kelford Black 4G adjustable cam gears.
Forced induction is provided by a Garrett GT42-1450 turbocharger, supported by a Hypertune intake manifold with 100mm throttle body and dual fuel rails. ID1300 and ID2600 injectors are fitted together with an Elixir fuel pump, while a direct-port nitrous system forms part of the performance package.
Engine management is handled by an Emtron KV8 ECU with keypad and an extensive sensor package, while a MoTeC dash provides vehicle and engine data to the driver. Supporting cooling equipment includes a Koyo Racing radiator and GReddy oil cooler kit.
The driveline has been comprehensively upgraded to support the engine output. Rather than a semi-automatic transmission, the vehicle is equipped with a Quaife sequential gearbox. Further driveline upgrades include Quaife differentials, RS differential, Driveline Shop driveshafts, carbon fibre tailshaft and a billet transfer case from NEAT. The vendor advises the vehicle does not have Mitsubishi's ACD system.
Further modifications include Carbing front and rear strut braces, DBA brakes front and rear and braided lines throughout. Air conditioning equipment is located in the boot.
The vehicle has also recently undergone an extensive professional detailing process including paint decontamination, two-stage paint correction, engine bay and interior detailing, exhaust polishing and polishing of selected engine bay components. The paint and wheels have subsequently been protected with Kraken Graphene Elite Plus 7-year self-healing ceramic coating.
The vendor advises an average paint thickness of approximately 70 microns was recorded and describes the paint as soft. Following the detailing and paint correction process, the Pearl White finish presents with significantly restored gloss and clarity.
