Description:

1986 Porsche 928 S4 - Dark Blue - 199,675km - 5.0-Litre Dual-Overhead-Cam V8, Automatic - Full Service History, $9,600 Recent Major Service

Porsche's flagship grand tourer in the definitive S4 specification, with strong service credentials and excellent exterior presentation.

Overview

The 928 S4 sits at the top of Porsche's grand touring hierarchy, representing the final evolution of the front-engined V8 concept that Porsche pursued with such conviction through the 1980s. Powered by a 5.0-litre dual-overhead-cam V8 producing 320 horsepower, the S4 was capable of 270km/h and could out-accelerate most cars on the road when new. Four decades on, it occupies a unique position as genuinely fast, beautifully engineered, and increasingly recognised by collectors who understand what they are looking at.

This 1986 example presents in very good condition on the outside. The dark blue metallic exterior holds excellent gloss across all panels with straight body lines and even gaps throughout. The signature pop-up headlights, flowing front end, integrated rear wing, and the distinctive 928 profile all remain as striking today as when the car was designed. The factory Porsche 5-hole alloy wheels in silver-grey present well with no significant kerb damage. The sunroof is present and structurally sound.

The 5.0-litre V8 is paired with an automatic transmission and drives through the rear wheels in the transaxle configuration that gave the 928 its legendary balance. Vendor advises the vehicle is accompanied by a full service history, and that approximately $9,600 was recently invested in the most recent major service. The engine bay reflects a car that has received consistent attention, with the 5.0-litre unit and its associated components all present and in original specification.

The interior is finished in dark blue leather throughout, consistent with 199,675 kilometres of genuine use. The seat bolsters and side panels show age-appropriate wear, with cracking on the driver's bolster consistent with regular use over four decades. The carpets are in good condition. The Porsche instrument cluster, climate control system, and all original switches and controls are present. An aftermarket CD head unit has been fitted in place of the original radio. Door cards present in good condition.
