IAN BOTHAM HAND SIGNED CRICKET BALL IN PERSPEX DISPLAY CASE

A wonderfully personal piece connected to one of Darren Lyons’ memorable days at Lord’s Cricket Ground during an Ashes Test between England and Australia.
The ball was signed by legendary English cricketer Ian “Beefy” Botham while Darren was attending the match in a private box surrounded by an extraordinary mix of sporting, media and entertainment personalities. Darren recalled the Test as the famous match where Kevin Pietersen emerged with his distinctive coloured hair and scored a memorable century against Australia.

Darren described the atmosphere as classic Lord’s hospitality mixed with celebrity chaos, recalling that by late afternoon the group had begun playing an improvised game of cricket inside the box itself using rolled-up serviettes, cutlery and whatever else was within reach.
Darren laughed while recalling: “Piers was at first slip, I was bowling, and Peter O’Toole was batting.”
The cricket ball was signed by Botham during the day and remains a unique crossover piece linking Ashes cricket, celebrity culture and one of the world’s most famous sporting venues.
