The Pink Panther Build
Built in February 1973 and now transformed into something its original owners could never have imagined, this LJ Torana 4-door sedan has been through a comprehensive custom build focused on performance, presentation and attention to detail from front bumper to boot lining. The theme is total. Strike Me Pink duco, a cam cover scripted "Pink Panther" in the engine bay, matching pink steering wheel, pink seat stitching, pink door surrounds and even a pink fire extinguisher in the boot. This is not a collection of aftermarket parts thrown at an old Holden. This is a build with a vision.
The Heart of the Build
Under the deep-purple metallic engine bay sits a Nissan RB30 bottom end mated to an RB25 DOHC cylinder head, running a side-mounted supercharger, water-methanol injection for additional charge cooling, and managed by a Haltech Elite 750 ECU. This combination in stock tune produces serious real-world power, and the modern engine management means it is tunable, data-loggable and reliable in daily use. Braking has been upgraded with Volvo 4-spot front calipers for added stopping confidence, and the exterior wears GTR-style guard flutes that sit authentically on the LJ body. The Trimatic 3-speed automatic handles the gearchanges, driving the rear wheels.
The interior has been rebuilt from the ground up. Custom fabricated front and rear seats are finished in black fabric with pink contrast stitching and matching headrests. The dashboard has been cleared and replaced with a full AutoMeter Sport-Comp gauge cluster covering tacho, GPS speedometer, fuel, oil pressure, voltmeter and water temperature. A pink-trimmed sports steering wheel sits in front of the cluster, and a Pioneer touchscreen multimedia unit with Apple CarPlay is integrated into the custom centre console below. The boot has been professionally trimmed in matching black with a Pioneer amplifier and twin subwoofers built in. The electrical system has been comprehensively updated with a modern fuse and relay panel in the engine bay, plus a battery isolator and Anderson plug for maintenance and auxiliary power in the boot.
The exterior presentation is strong. The duco carries genuine gloss and depth in the Strike Me Pink colour with red pearl, and the black bonnet and boot stripe with black window surrounds gives the car a Bathurst-correct feel. American Racing Torque Thrust style alloys are fitted to all four corners on good rubber.
