Item Description
This is an authentic kora, a traditional West African harp-lute that combines the tonal qualities of both harp and lute. The instrument features a large gourd resonator carved from a single calabash, with a wooden soundboard and traditional construction throughout.

Resonator: Large dried calabash gourd, naturally weathered cream-white finish
Soundboard: Carved hardwood with traditional decorative patterns
Neck & Tuning Pegs: Hand-carved hardwood with anthropomorphic finials (two carved head figures)

Bridge: Wooden bridge with metal reinforcement
String Anchors: Wrapped with natural fibre binding at both bridge and neck

The kora is a centuries-old instrument originating from the Mandinka people of West Africa, particularly associated with Senegal, Guinea, Mali and surrounding regions. The instrument's unique hybrid design—combining harp-like string arrangement with lute-like construction—produces a distinctive warm, resonant tone used in both ceremonial and entertainment contexts.
