Michael Whelan (b. 1950) is one of the most celebrated science fiction and fantasy illustrators of the late 20th century, with multiple Hugo Award wins for Best Professional Artist. "Periwinkle" is the original cover artwork for "The Changeling Sea" by Patricia A. McKillip, one of the most beloved fantasy novelists of her generation. The composition depicts a pensive barefoot girl in a cream gown sitting on rocky sea-edge ground beside an ornate glowing lantern, two massive monolithic standing stones rising behind her, a full moon glowing between them on the horizon. The mood is atmospheric, mystical, and deeply evocative. The print is from a small limited edition of 200, signed and numbered by Whelan in his characteristic gold ink. The verso label is fully intact, documenting the title, edition size, and book connection.<br>
