Bottled on 30 July 2017, this release is identified as Double Cask No. DC094, with the youngest whisky distilled on 5 May 2008. Limited to just 1,362 bottles worldwide, this offering is Bottle No. 274, presented sealed in its original box.
Unlike Sullivan's Cove's celebrated single cask bottlings, the Rare Double Cask Edition series combines a select number of outstanding casks, allowing the distillery to create a whisky of remarkable harmony while preserving the distinctive character of its award-winning spirit. Double Cask DC094 was bottled at 47.5% ABV, delivering a rich and approachable expression that highlights the balance between carefully matured oak influence and Sullivan's Cove's signature fruit-forward house style.
The nose is expressive and inviting, opening with aromas of golden honey, vanilla bean, baked pear and ripe stone fruits, layered with notes of toffee, toasted almonds and gentle baking spices. The palate is smooth and beautifully rounded, revealing flavours of salted caramel, malt biscuits, dried apricot, milk chocolate and roasted hazelnuts, complemented by subtle citrus zest and refined oak spice. The finish is long, warming and elegantly balanced, lingering with impressions of creamy vanilla, butterscotch, soft cinnamon, toasted oak and delicate fruit sweetness.
Produced in an outturn of just 1,362 bottles, this Rare Double Cask Edition DC094 represents an increasingly difficult release to source, combining mature Tasmanian single malt with the meticulous cask selection that has established Sullivan's Cove among the world's most highly regarded whisky distilleries.
