Distilled on 11 April 2008 and matured for over a decade before being decanted on 24 October 2018, this outstanding single malt was drawn exclusively from Barrel TD0263, producing just 536 bottles worldwide. The Special Cask Edition series is reserved for casks of exceptional quality that fall outside Sullivan's Cove's classic French Oak and American Oak core range. Each release is selected for its distinctive personality, ensuring no two bottlings are ever alike. Barrel TD0263 is particularly notable as the first Special Cask Edition matured in a French Oak Apera cask, with the Australian fortified wine-seasoned oak contributing remarkable richness while preserving the distillery's elegant fruit-forward spirit. Bottled at 44.8% ABV, this release has become one of the more distinctive expressions within the celebrated Special Cask portfolio.
The nose opens with generous aromas of apricot preserve, ripe nectarine, baked apple, buttery caramel and toasted malt, complemented by hints of vanilla, roasted almonds and delicate baking spice. The palate is rich, creamy and beautifully balanced, revealing layers of toffee, dried figs, cocoa-dusted stone fruit, honeyed malt and warming clove, while subtle touches of sea salt and refined oak add depth and complexity. The finish is long and elegant, lingering with notes of dulce de leche, toasted marshmallow, cocoa, gentle spice and polished French oak, leaving a refined and memorable impression.
