Distilled on 29 December 2007 and matured for more than a decade before being decanted on 26 September 2018, this outstanding Tasmanian single malt was drawn exclusively from Barrel TD0228, yielding just 249 bottles worldwide. The Rare Special Cask Edition range is reserved for some of Sullivan's Cove's most distinctive and characterful casks, selected for their individuality rather than adherence to the distillery's traditional French Oak or American Oak core expressions. Barrel TD0228 was matured in a 300-litre first-fill French Oak ex-Muscat cask, imparting exceptional richness and complexity while preserving the elegance of Sullivan's Cove's celebrated spirit. Bottled at 50% ABV, this release has become highly sought after for both its rarity and its unique maturation profile.
The nose is beautifully expressive, opening with aromas of black cherry, prune, strawberry preserve and dark berry compote, layered with notes of rose petals, liquorice, leather, truffle and warm baking spices. Hints of sage, citrus leaf and cinnamon add further aromatic intrigue. The palate is luxuriously full-bodied, revealing flavours of ripe dark fruits, cocoa, Christmas cake, spice and gentle oak tannins, with the ex-Muscat cask contributing remarkable depth without overwhelming the spirit. The finish is long, silky and warming, leaving lingering impressions of fortified wine sweetness, dark chocolate, dried fruit and refined French oak spice.
