Description:

Mahogany, late 'Regency' double ended Sofa. A two seater size with scroll shaped end rails with fine wing carving. The serpentine shaped top rail with fully upholstered back, seat and side panels. Fine carved moulded cartouche to the front rail with rosettes to the ends and splay, lion paw carved feet.

The defining feature is the curved, cross-shaped "X-frame" base. This design dates back to ancient Roman "curule" seats and saw massive revivals during the Neoclassical, Empire, and Regency periods. The Finish: It features a distressed, carved wooden frame with a whitewashed, parcel-gilt, or cream-lacquered finish that mimics authentic 18th or 19th-century French Rococo and Italian Neoclassical craftsmanship.
