"Notre Dame" depicts the great cathedral of Paris through the trees - the Gothic towers, arched windows, and rose window visible through the overhanging canopy of a large central tree, with a balustrade or bridge railing in the foreground with hanging vine. Matisse returned to the view of Notre Dame repeatedly throughout his Paris years, producing both paintings and prints from his studio window looking out toward the cathedral. The etching is signed "H Matisse" in the lower right corner. The COA from Independent Auctioneers (NSW) confirms attribution and states the work was produced from "the original etching plate." Buyers are encouraged to conduct independent research into the impression history and provenance of this print beyond the existing authentication.<br>
