"Venus in Arcady" is a classic Lindsay mythological fantasy - the goddess Venus stands nude among a crowd of approximately a dozen satyrs and fauns, their goat-legged, grotesque forms cavorting around her in the woodland setting. Lindsay's mythological prints are among the most collectible in the Australian print market, celebrated for their draughtsmanship, their sensuality, and their uniquely Lindsayan combination of classical subject and irreverent energy. This impression is from the same series as Lot 601 (Unknown Seas, Plate 183) - both are number 136 from an edition of 200, and their plate numbers run consecutively (183 and 185), confirming they come from the same documented portfolio.
