"Unknown Seas" is a mythological maritime fantasy scene in the tradition of Norman Lindsay's celebrated etching oeuvre - multiple nude female figures (sirens and nymphs) clustered around and ascending a great gnarled tree or rocky formation rising from the sea, a sailing vessel ghostly in the mist at left, birds skimming the water below. Lindsay's fantastical mythology, his sensuous draftsmanship, and his technical mastery of the etching medium are all present in this atmospheric composition. The work is inscribed "136/200" from a limited edition of 200 impressions and carries the plate number 183, consistent with an etching portfolio or documented Lindsay edition series. Note: no artist signature has been confirmed in the available photographs of this lot. Attribution is based on style and composition consistent with Lindsay's work. The plate and edition numbers should be cross-referenced against Lindsay documentation by interested buyers.<br>
