1985 Honda TLM 200 Trials - Red/White - JDM Grey Import - 2-Stroke, 6-Speed, Pro-Link Mono

1985 Honda TLM 200, 195cc air-cooled 2-stroke single, 6-speed manual, JDM grey import, competition trials configuration, 1 seat.

About This Bike

The Honda TLM 200 was Honda's purpose-built trials machine from the mid-1980s, produced exclusively for the Japanese domestic market and never officially sold through Honda Australia. Built around a 195cc air-cooled 2-stroke single with a 6-speed gearbox, the TLM used Honda's Pro-Link monoshock rear suspension, which was a significant step forward from the twin-shock TLR series it replaced. These bikes were Honda's answer to the mono-shock trials revolution and remain respected among enthusiasts for their light weight, responsive handling, and period-correct construction. Getting one into Australia means importation, and genuine examples here are hard to come by.

Condition

The bike presents in its factory red and white colour scheme with Honda TLM graphics intact and legible. The frame, swingarm, spokes, and chain show surface rust and corrosion consistent with a well-used machine of this age, and the overall condition is project-grade rather than ready-to-ride. Vendor advises there is a dent on the fuel tank, and photos confirm damage and paint deterioration at the left rear lower section of the tank. Vendor advises the seat mould is cracked and the seat has been siliconed on, both visible in photos. The rear body panel shows significant paint peeling. The front brake has been converted from drum to disc, with an Genuine Honda Parts. The engine appears complete and intact with no visible cracks, though the expansion chamber carries surface dents. Replacement silicone hoses have been fitted in the engine bay area. Trials Universal Tyres. The bike is fitted with no headlight, taillight, indicators, or mirrors, consistent with its JDM competition-only specification.

Market Context

Running examples of the Honda TLM 200 in reasonable condition are currently asking $2,870 in Australia. In the UK, a comparable JDM import restoration project was listed at GBP 1,699 (approximately AUD 3,300) in early 2025. For an enthusiast looking for a period mono-class trials bike to restore and campaign at vintage trials events, the mechanical foundation is all here and parts compatibility with the broader Honda trials range is workable.
