Price Guide: $45,000 - $60,000

1968 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray C3. Left-hand drive. 5.7-litre V8 petrol. Four-speed automatic transmission. Two-door coupe with removable T-top panels. 58,825 kilometres.

Description

The 1968 Corvette Stingray marks the beginning of the C3 generation, one of the most dramatic redesigns in automotive history. Inspired by the Mako Shark II concept car, the new body brought flowing fenders, hidden headlights, side gill vents, a Kamm-back tail with quad round taillights, and the removable T-top roof panels that became the car's signature. These styling elements were genuinely radical in 1968 and they still turn heads today. As the first year of the platform, the 1968 C3 carries extra collector significance, and the global market for these cars has strengthened consistently over the past decade.

This example is finished in vibrant yellow, which is one of the best colours available on a C3 Corvette, with the long bonnet and sweeping guards making the most of it from every angle. The body panels are straight with good gloss throughout. Chrome front and rear bumpers are intact and presentable. The iconic side gill vents on the front fenders are undamaged, the "Stingray" script badge on the fender is present and legible, and the hidden headlight pods appear straight and undamaged. The T-top panels are in place. The car rides on aftermarket Simmons Street Classic multi-spoke chrome wheels with white-letter Bridgestone tyres and red-painted disc brake calipers visible at the rear. The instrument cluster presents the distinctive twin-pod C3 dashboard with the original speedometer and tachometer gauges, the speedometer confirmed at 36,825 miles (consistent with the listed 58,825 kilometres), supporting the mileage claim. Inside, the black interior shows honest age-appropriate wear throughout, with the vinyl seating, door panels, and dashboard reflecting a car that has been used and enjoyed. An aftermarket steering wheel, modern stereo, and Pioneer rear speakers are fitted. The automatic transmission shifter operates in the centre console as expected.

Vendor discloses minor paint damage visible on the boot lid. The interior presents as a driver requiring cosmetic freshening rather than a full restoration, which is reflected in the guide pricing. The listing notes the vehicle is currently registered in WA until September 2026, with transfer form available for WA buyers. A first-year C3 Corvette coupe in running and driving condition with clear documentation is a genuine entry point into the Corvette collecting world. Entry-level first-gen C3 coupes in driver condition in Australia have traded between AUD $28,000 and $50,000, with cleaner, more original examples commanding more. This one sits honestly in the middle of that range.
