Description A historically significant pairing marking the transition in Australian currency from paper $1 notes to the $1 coin in May 1984. The set is presented together in a green display card with the outline map of Australia, housed in a clear acrylic protective case. The 1984 Australian $1 coin is the Stuart Devlin design showing five kangaroos (the iconic "mob of roos" reverse) with "DOLLAR" below. This is the inaugural issue of the Australian $1 coin, replaced the $1 note in circulation in May 1984. The coin is in uncirculated to near-uncirculated condition with good lustre. The green card is marked "THE FIRST AUSTRALIAN DOLLAR COIN MAY 1984" with an Australian $1 postage stamp (Sword-Grass Brown butterfly) affixed. The card shows minor surface scratching and light age wear. The companion $1 banknote (serial DNG 765326) is printed with signatures of B.W. Johnston (Governor, Reserve Bank of Australia) and J.O. Stone (Secretary to the Treasury) - the Johnston/Stone signature combination, one of the last issues of the paper $1 note before retirement. The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II on the right and the Australian Coat of Arms to the left.
