Description

A lot of nine cast bronze cash coins from the Qin (Chin) Dynasty of China, representing some of the earliest standardised Chinese coinage. These Ban Liang (半兩 - "half liang") coins were introduced when the Qin unified China and imposed a standardised currency, replacing the diverse knife and spade coins of earlier feudal periods. The round coin with square central hole that these established became the template for Chinese cash coinage for the next two millennia. The "半兩" inscription flanks the square hole, though heavy wear makes characters difficult to read on most examples. These ancient coins show extensive green and dark patina/verdigris consistent with their approximately 2,200-year age, along with surface pitting, rough edges, and encrusted deposits suggesting earth burial. Condition ranges from poor to fair across the nine pieces; legibility is limited on most. Vendor advises these are genuine Qin Dynasty pieces.
