Description

A curated aftermarket display set presenting seven significant Australian 50-cent pieces from the first 25 years of decimal coinage, housed in a rectangular clear acrylic case with a deep blue velvet backing and gold "Australian 50 Cent Collection 1966-91" title label.


The highlight of the set is the 1966 round 50c, Australia's first 50-cent coin and the only round 50-cent design ever struck for circulation. This coin contains 80% silver (10.64g fine silver per coin from the 13.28g total weight) making it a genuine silver bullion piece in addition to its numismatic interest. The 1966 example appears toned, in approximately VF condition.


The remaining six coins are dodecagonal (12-sided) copper-nickel commemoratives: 1970 Captain Cook 200th Anniversary, 1977 Silver Jubilee, 1981 Royal Wedding (Charles and Diana), 1982 Commonwealth Games Brisbane, 1988 Bicentennial, and 1991 25th Anniversary of Decimal Currency. All are in generally good circulated condition, VF to EF range. The acrylic case shows minor age-related scratching but remains fully intact and presentable.


Important: The 1966 round 50c is the key silver piece in this set. Specialist inspection recommended for any coins believed to be high grade.
