Description

An 1909 British bronze half penny from the reign of King Edward VII. The obverse carries the bare head portrait of Edward VII by G.W. De Saulles, though heavy wear has reduced the portrait to little more than a faint outline. The reverse shows the classic Britannia seated design by Leonard Charles Wyon, with "HALF PENNY" above and the date below; Britannia's outline is discernible but most fine detail has been lost to extended circulation. Composition is standard Royal Mint bronze (95.5% copper, 3% tin, 1.5% zinc). The coin exhibits heavy, dark brown-to-black patina, with some mottled surface areas and a possible minor verdigris patch on the reverse. No evidence of intentional cleaning. The coin is housed in a 2x2 cardboard holder. Note: while this date had a somewhat lower mintage, the coin's extremely worn state means it is a type/date filler only.
