Description

Issued to mark the 1986 return of Halley's Comet, visible from Earth approximately every 75-76 years, the last appearance prior to writing having been in 1910. This medallion was produced for the Australian market and features a detailed relief depiction of the comet streaking across a globe with the continent of Australia prominently shown, with latitude and longitude grid lines, and "HALLEY'S COMET" inscribed above with "1986" below. The bright gold-toned metal shows polished uncirculated surfaces with good detail. The piece is housed in its original clear square acrylic holder with a blue and red star-print backing card inscribed "HALLEY'S COMET / 1986 / APPEARS ONCE IN A LIFETIME". Both the medallion and the original presentation card and case are in excellent condition.
