Description

A handsome gold-plated commemorative medallion issued for Ansett Australian Airlines, one of Australia's iconic domestic carriers that operated from its founding by Sir Reginald Ansett in 1936 until its collapse in September 2001. The obverse features a relief depiction of an Ansett commercial jet aircraft in profile, with "ANSETT" arching above and "Founded 1936" along the lower rim. The reverse carries the distinctive Ansett star-and-triangle corporate logo with "ANSETT AUSTRALIAN AIRLINES" inscribed around the upper rim and "Melbourne and Sydney" at the bottom, referencing the airline's two principal hub cities. The medallion displays proof-like mirror fields with frosted design elements. Condition is about-uncirculated, with only minor surface marks on the mirror fields from occasional handling. Ansett memorabilia has become increasingly collectible since the airline's closure, making this an appealing piece of Australian aviation history.
