Description

Issued in 1988 as part of the official 200th anniversary celebrations of the European settlement of Australia, this memento was distributed to Australian school students across the country. The bronze-toned medallion features a relief design of stylised human figures representing Australia's diverse population, with "EDUCATION" inscribed along the lower edge. The piece is mounted on its original white presentation card bearing the distinctive Australia Bicentennial logo (green, gold and red), "Australia 1788-1988" text, "Bicentennial Memento for School Students" inscription, and colourful diagonal striped and scroll decoration. Millions of these were distributed to school students in 1988, making them a genuine piece of Australian social and educational history. The card shows minor edge wear, slight yellowing, and minor creasing consistent with 35+ years of age, but remains intact and legible. The medallion retains its natural bronze toning.
