The W107 450SLC was the long-wheelbase coupe variant of the legendary SL-Class roadster, produced from 1972 to 1980. This 1979 example is powered by the M117 4.5-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, paired to a 3-speed automatic transmission, in right-hand drive configuration. Condition Assessment
This is a project and parts car in poor to very poor condition. The following condition information is compiled directly from photos and vendor-supplied details. Buyers are strongly advised to arrange a pre-purchase inspection before bidding.
The exterior paint is heavily faded, oxidised, and chalking across all panels. The bonnet surface shows widespread rust bubbling under the paint, indicating rust has progressed beneath the surface across the entire panel. Large sections of the door panels show paint peeling back to bare metal and primer. The driver's side front area shows significant collision-type damage with crumpled sheet metal. The lower rocker panel shows a rust-through hole of substantial size where metal has completely corroded away. The sunroof corners show rust-through perforations, particularly at the driver's front corner. The rear window lower channel has multiple rust-through holes where the metal has completely deteriorated. The trunk floor shows severe rust-through with holes penetrating fully through the floor pan. The front headlight area shows rust-through into the inner structure. The driver's side rear quarter panel shows extensive paint failure with bare metal exposed. The front bonnet shows rust blistering consistent with sub-surface corrosion across the full panel.
Engine and Mechanicals
The M117 4.5-litre V8 engine is present in the engine bay and appears complete, with the Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system, distributor, power steering pump, and associated components visible. The engine bay shows significant surface rust on fasteners, brackets, and metal components throughout, and heavy dust and debris accumulation consistent with extended storage. The vehicle is NOT RUNNING. The steering wheel, steering column, and ignition switch are missing.
Interior
The interior retains the tan/beige MB-Tex upholstery on the front seats, which are present and broadly intact beneath significant dust and soiling. The rear seat is present but is covered with a collection of spare parts and removed trim components. The door cards are present, with the passenger door card in relatively fair condition showing sun fading but structurally intact. The dashboard is deteriorated and cracked with the instrument cluster area stripped. The headliner is present but sagging and stained. Climate controls, gear selector, and centre console components are largely present. An aftermarket radio has been installed.
Wheels and Tyres
The factory Mercedes-Benz Gullideckel 8-hole alloy wheels are fitted all round and appear structurally intact, though dirty and showing surface corrosion on fixings. All four tyres are flat and show significant age-related sidewall cracking and dry rot, and will require replacement. Tyre size 205/65 R15 is visible on at least one wheel.
