Description:

1929 Desoto K Convertible - Green/Black - 699 Miles - Rare RHD 6-Cylinder Automatic

Overview

The 1929 Desoto K represents a pivotal moment in automotive history, arriving during the final year before the Great Depression reshaped the industry. Desoto, Chrysler's mid-range marque, positioned the K as an accessible yet sophisticated offering with genuine engineering innovation. This particular example is a right-hand drive convertible, a significant rarity that speaks to its original Australian market destination. The K's inline six-cylinder engine paired with Chrysler's pioneering semi-automatic transmission made it a forward-thinking proposition for the era, combining mechanical simplicity with genuine convenience features uncommon in 1929 production vehicles.

This is a genuine barnfind with exceptional originality credentials. The odometer reading of 699 miles suggests either minimal use from new or a long period of storage, preserving the vehicle in a time-capsule state. The two-door convertible body style captures the open-air motoring aesthetic of the late 1920s, whilst the dual-tone green and black livery reflects period colour preferences. Right-hand drive configuration confirms this was built for the Australian market, making it a locally significant piece of automotive heritage.

The 1929 Desoto K occupies a sweet spot in classic car collecting: pre-Depression engineering, manageable size, genuine rarity in RHD form, and sufficient originality to appeal to both restoration specialists and preservation-focused collectors. Comparable 1920s American convertibles in similar condition have attracted strong interest at specialist auctions, particularly when RHD variants demonstrate authentic market provenance.
