Description:

1919 Australia King George V One Penny - VF Condition

A circulated example of the Australian Commonwealth penny dated 1919, struck during the reign of King George V. The obverse carries the crowned and robed portrait of George V by Sir Edgar Bertram Mackennal, with the Latin legend GEORGIVS V D.G. BRITT: OMN: REX F.D. IND: IMP. The reverse bears ONE PENNY within a beaded circle, COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA around the upper arc, and the date 1919 at the base flanked by dots.

Metal: Bronze (97% copper, 2.5% zinc, 0.5% tin). Approximate weight: 9.45g. Approximate diameter: 30.8mm.

Grade: Very Fine VF-25 (Sheldon scale). Lettering fully legible throughout both sides. Main design elements clear and well-defined. High points carry moderate, even wear consistent with honest circulation. Both sides display natural chocolate-brown patina consistent with over a century of age. No cleaning, tooling, or artificial enhancement detected. No rim damage or significant detracting marks noted.

The 1919 Australian penny was produced at the Melbourne and London mints. Mint variety for this example has not been confirmed from photographs alone. A sound, naturally preserved circulated example of King George V coinage - more than 107 years old at auction.
