Description
The UC is the final chapter of the Torana nameplate, and while it never got the factory V8 option that made its LH and LX predecessors famous, a well-executed 308 conversion turns it into the car Holden probably should have built. This four-door example has had the work done properly. A Victorian VASS engineering certificate (September 2017, cert C0810004) covers the engine, brakes, suspension, steering and exhaust modifications. The compliance plate confirms the car started life as a Starfire four-cylinder with a manual gearbox, and the VASS modification plate documents the full conversion to 308ci V8 and automatic. All identity plates are matching and present, with VINs consistent across the compliance plate, VASS plate and body stamps.
The exterior is exceptional for a 48-year-old car. The white paint has been resprayed to a high standard with consistent gloss across all panels and no visible rust on any external panel, wheel arch, sill or door shut. All chrome trim, badges and body mouldings are present and in strong order, including the SL badges on the front guards, "Torana" script on the boot and RTS badge on the rear quarter. Panel gaps are tight and consistent throughout. Chrome steel rally-style wheels with Holden centre caps are fitted on all four corners. The interior retains the original tan vinyl SL specification with door cards in excellent condition and only age-appropriate wear on the driver's seat bolster. An aftermarket Autotecnica steering wheel, Speco tachometer with shift light and three auxiliary gauges (oil pressure, water temperature and volts) have been added to complement the V8. The engine bay has been painted white to match and presents tidily with a chrome air cleaner on top of the 308.
Sold with two keys, Victorian Club Permit book and documentation. UC Toranas with VASS-certified V8 conversions in this condition represent strong value against the LH and LX models, where comparable 308-powered cars routinely sell in the $25,000 to $65,000 range depending on specification and condition. A clean, compliant, turn-key classic Torana for a fraction of the big-brother money.
