Description
The VE SSV was Holden's performance flagship, built around an all-aluminium 6.0-litre L98 V8 and rear-wheel drive. It represented the high-water mark of Holden's in-house V8 performance engineering, before the Series II transition to the LS3. This example has been thoughtfully modified by an enthusiast who spent their money in the right places.
The exterior carries a full Clubsport body kit, with an aggressive front bumper incorporating a lower chin splitter and fog light housings, matching side skirts running the full length of both sills, and a rear bumper with lower diffuser section and twin large-bore stainless exhaust tips. Simmons 3-piece alloy wheels in a polished silver finish with exposed rim bolts and deep dish lips sit at all four corners, fitted with low-profile performance tyres. The stance is noticeably lowered on XYZ coilover suspension throughout. Inside, the factory SSV black leather with perforated inserts is in order, and the instrument cluster has been upgraded to the HSV E1 specification, giving HSV-branded faces on both the tachometer and speedometer dials with the crystal LCD information display between them. The odometer reads 161,008km on that display. The factory Blaupunkt integrated navigation head unit is fitted (a feature of the SSV spec), along with dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, power seats, reverse camera, and cruise control. Aftermarket cold air intake (cone filter) fitted to the L98. The roof shows paint fading and is presenting as a duller finish compared to the gloss body panels. The Blaupunkt navigation screen shows the amber discolouration typical of aged units of this type.
VE SSVs in the 160,000km range are currently privately listed between $18,000 and $26,000.
