1979 Range Rover Classic 2-Door - Burgundy/White Roof - 50,881km - 3.5L V8, 4-Speed Manual, Permanent 4WD

1979 Land Rover Range Rover Classic, 2-door, 3.5L V8 petrol, 4-speed manual, indicating 50,881km, 5 seats.

Description

The original two-door Range Rover is one of the most significant automotive designs of the 20th century, full stop. When it launched in 1970, it single-handedly created the luxury 4x4 segment by proving you could build something that was genuinely capable off-road and civilised on it. This 1979 Suffix F example is from the classic era of the model, manufactured by Rover-British Leyland in Solihull, England and delivered new to Australia with right-hand drive, metric instruments, and ADR compliance. The two-door body is the original and most collectible configuration, and this one pairs the 3.5-litre Rover V8 with a proper 4-speed manual gearbox and permanent four-wheel drive with high/low range transfer case.

Presented in burgundy with the signature contrasting white roof, this Range Rover is an honest, unrestored survivor that has clearly been used and enjoyed. The exterior paint retains reasonable gloss on the lower panels, though the bonnet and other flat surfaces show fading and oxidation from sun exposure. The aluminium bumpers are present and show typical age-related wear. Under the bonnet, the 3.5L V8 is in place with twin SU carburettors, and the engine bay shows aftermarket blue HT leads and a modern battery. Inside, the tan cloth seats with grey inserts show wear but no major tears, and the headliner is impressively intact. The dashboard carries an aftermarket tachometer, a Mark IV Custom aftermarket air conditioning system, and auxiliary oil temperature and voltage gauges. The speedometer reads in km/h with 50,881 kilometres indicated. Both the main gear lever and transfer case lever are present on the transmission tunnel. A fire extinguisher is fitted. The rear cargo area is accessed through the original split tailgate.

Two-door Range Rover Classics have been climbing steadily in value as collectors recognise their significance. Restored examples have sold for over $100,000 AUD internationally, and even presentable drivers are commanding strong money. This is a complete, running-spec example with the desirable manual gearbox and the right bones for a rewarding restoration. Located in Carrara, Queensland.
