Overview

A striking pair of drop earrings built around two pear-shaped Ethiopian opal cabochons with a dark (near-black) body tone and vivid multi-directional play-of-colour. Each opal measures 18.73mm x 10.90mm x 4.73mm, a generous stone size that provides excellent surface area for the colour display. The dominant play-of-colour colours photographed include red, magenta, and green, with some stones showing pinfire-like patterns of scattered colour points alongside broader flash areas. Brightness is moderate to bright.



Each opal is set within a full halo of 38 round brilliant-cut diamonds (76 total across the pair, 1.05ct combined) in micro-claw settings in 14ct rose gold. The warm rose gold provides an ideal warm-toned backdrop that allows the opal's red and orange flashes to read most intensely. A marquise-shaped diamond-set drop element links the halo setting to the shepherd's hook ear wire. The open-back construction behind each opal allows light to enter from the pavilion side.



Note: Ethiopian opals are hydrophane opals. Contact with water may temporarily suppress play-of-colour. This is a known characteristic of the variety, not a defect. Opal treatment status is not stated on the certificate.
