Overview

Tanzanite at its best is one of the most visually commanding gemstones in fine jewellery. This 6.93ct pear-shaped tanzanite sits at the larger end of what readily appears in auction, measuring 14.7mm x 9.3mm with a depth of 6.8mm. The stone is a medium-dark violetish-blue, the classic colour profile most sought by collectors, and it is mounted in platinum to maximise the cool contrast with the stone's blue-violet body. A single halo of 38 round brilliant-cut diamonds (0.50ct total, H colour, VS2-SI1) surrounds the pear outline, with diamond-set shoulders continuing down each side of the narrow half-round shank.



The setting features an elegant open-back gallery with arched platinum struts converging at the culet, a design that serves both light performance and aesthetics. Photos show the ring in very good condition with a consistent Pt950 hallmark visible on the inner shank. The tanzanite is eye-appealing from face-up position with good transparency. The valuation certificate notes that some internal inclusions are surface-reaching, which is disclosed for transparency and is consistent with the tanzanite's included clarity grade. This does not affect the stone's face-up appearance materially.



Valuation Professionals (IGL Corp Pty Ltd) issued a retail replacement certificate (No. 80357, April 2024) at AUD $11,759. Tanzania is the sole source of tanzanite in the world, and gem-quality stones of this size in platinum settings carry significant replacement cost. At auction, comparable tanzanite and diamond rings in platinum regularly achieve $2,500 to $5,500 depending on depth of colour and stone quality.

All 38 diamonds intact and secure. Prongs are undamaged. Platinum shank is bright with no deformation or solder marks. Hallmark Pt950 legible on inner shank.
