Description / Overview:
The HX Monaro LE is as good as it gets in Australian muscle car collecting. Released in 1976 as the final hurrah for the Holden Monaro coupe, the Limited Edition was produced in very small numbers and was offered in only a handful of colours, this being the iconic Crimson Burgundy LE Red. It came loaded from the factory with gold GTS honeycomb alloy wheels, unique gold pinstriping, LE script badges on the C-pillars and rear panel, a full gauge cluster including tacho, power windows, factory woodgrain trim, and an exclusive tartan cloth interior that set it apart from everything else on the road. It was the last of the breed, and Holden would not produce another Monaro coupe until 2001.
This example presents as an exceptional, preserved original. The vendor advises the car has been within the same family from new and has always been garaged. The odometer reads 89,553 km, which the interior condition supports. The original log books, owner's manual, and original paint and rust protection card are included with the sale. Two-cent coins still sit in the ashtray, placed there by the original owner. These are the details that only happen on genuine low-mileage, one-owner cars.
Externally, the Crimson Burgundy presents well with a high-gloss finish across all body panels. The gold pinstriping, fender vents, and LE badges are all present and correct. The gold honeycomb alloy wheels show age-appropriate patina consistent with originality, not freshly repainted reproductions. One area to note is paint blistering on the boot lid trailing edge and near the latch, which may indicate an area of concern beneath the surface and should be investigated at inspection. Minor age marks on the bonnet are also noted. Inside, the factory tartan cloth trim is in very good condition, the full gauge cluster is present and correct, and the woodgrain applique shows the natural aging of an original piece rather than a reproduction. The only non-original items noted are an aftermarket steering wheel and a period 4-channel car stereo. The headliner shows minor sag at the rear quarters, common on cars of this era.
