Description:

1937 Rover Series 12
1937 Rover Series 12 four-door saloon, Car No. 711726, confirmed 1937 manufacture by The Rover Co. Ltd, Coventry. Finished in British Racing Green with black fabric roof section. Rear-wheel drive, powered by a 1.5-litre inline-four overhead-valve petrol engine, four-speed manual gearbox with freewheel mechanism. Odometer indicating 61,623 miles. Seating for four. UK registration plate BFU 342 retained in boot. Located in Carrara, QLD.

Description / Overview:
This is a genuine pre-war British survivor with outstanding provenance, and the documentation alone makes it worth a serious look. The lot comes with the original Rover Master Spare Parts List covering the Ten and Twelve series from 1934 to 1940, two full lever-arch binders of maintenance notes (one labelled "Rover 12 Maintenance Notes"), a Rover Car Club of Australia album, Queensland safety certificates, and original historical photographs. Car No. 711726 falls squarely in the 1937 Rover Twelve production run (series commencing at 711001) and is confirmed definitively by the factory manufacturer plate still riveted in the engine bay. The UK registration BFU 342 confirms British import history. The RACQ 50-year membership badge on the grille tells you this car spent decades in Queensland hands.

The cabin is a genuine highlight. The figured walnut timber dashboard is in remarkably good condition, the full set of Jaeger instruments is original and complete (speedometer, clock, oil pressure gauge, petrol and oil gauge, ammeter), the Rover-branded pedal pads are a wonderful detail, and the manual advance/retard control on the steering column hub and freewheel engagement knob on the dash are both present and intact. Lucas ignition, fog lamp switch, original four-spoke wheel. The leather upholstery is well-worn and cracked on the driver seat cushion as you would expect after 87 years, but the rear seat is in noticeably better condition and the door cards and timber cappings are tidy throughout.

The lot includes a complete spare engine block on a wheeled trolley with crankshaft, cylinder head, flywheel with ring gear, manifolds, and timing cover. All surface-rusted but structurally complete. For a 1937 Rover 12 owner this is an extraordinary bonus that is extremely difficult to source. Chrome wire wheels are fitted all around. The car is non-mobile due to a shredded front left tyre, all four tyres are age-cracked and require replacement, and the listing would benefit from underside inspection to confirm floor pan condition. Sold as-is with all documentation and spare parts as photographed.
