Description / Overview:
The W114 pillarless coupe is one of the most elegant Mercedes-Benz bodies of the 1970s. The /8 series coupe has genuine collector appeal, and surviving Australian examples are increasingly hard to find. This one is a December 1970 build with matching compliance plate and two keys. The blue MB-Tex interior is remarkably well-preserved for a 55-year-old car. Both front and rear seats are intact, the dashboard is uncracked, wood veneer trim is in place, and the instrument cluster is complete with VDO gauges and Kienzle clock. The headliner is intact with no sag. The interior condition well exceeds what you would expect at this price point.
The exterior is another story and needs to be stated plainly. The left rear quarter panel has sustained significant collision damage with a diagonal crease running above the wheel arch, associated rust where paint has broken, and the left rear bumper is badly bent. The trunk floor carries heavy surface rust and evidence of water intrusion. Door jambs show surface corrosion at multiple points. The right side of the car presents considerably better. Budget accordingly for professional panel work and a full respray. Note: the compliance plate reads "250CE" (fuel-injected) rather than "250C" as listed, and the odometer reads in miles, not kilometres.
