Whoever carved this daybed understood that a piece of furniture can tell a story. The pierced crest rail is a landscape of interlocking forms, carved by hand from dense dark hardwood that has not softened with age. The diamond lattice fretwork along the sides is precise and deliberate. The turned legs are balanced and confident. At 180 by 80 centimetres, it sits at the scale of a generous single or a narrow double, equally at home on a covered terrace, in a guest room, or as a reading daybed in a study.
