1951 Pashley Baker’s Delivery Bike A charming example of mid-century working transport, this 1951 Pashley Baker’s Bike represents the traditional delivery bicycles once commonly used by bakeries and small businesses throughout Britain. Finished in Black and configured with a distinctive front carrier basket, these bicycles became iconic symbols of everyday commerce during the early to mid-20th century. Built on a Pashley bicycle platform, the design features a smaller front wheel and a large front-mounted basket specifically intended for carrying bread and other deliveries. These practical machines allowed bakers to make frequent neighbourhood deliveries efficiently while maintaining balance with a loaded front basket. This example is fitted with a Cyclemotor petrol engine mounted within the rear wheel, producing approximately 35cc. These small auxiliary engines were often added to delivery bicycles to assist riders when climbing hills or travelling longer distances while still retaining the simplicity of pedal operation. Pashley Baker’s Bike History Pashley Cycles, founded in England in 1926, became well known for producing durable commercial bicycles used by tradespeople including bakers, butchers and delivery services. The baker’s delivery bike in particular became a familiar sight on British streets for decades. Their strong frames, practical cargo capacity and reliability made them ideal for daily delivery work. Today, surviving examples are highly collectible as nostalgic reminders of traditional trade and transport from the mid-20th century.
