1964 Yamaha YG1

A historically significant early Yamaha motorcycle, this 1964 Yamaha YG1 is finished in Silver and shows an indicated 11,291 miles. The YG1 represents one of the models that helped establish Yamaha as a major global motorcycle manufacturer during the early 1960s.



Powered by an 80cc single-cylinder two-stroke engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission, the YG1 featured innovative technology for its time including rotary valve induction and Yamaha’s early oil-injection system. This system eliminated the need for premixed fuel, allowing oil to be automatically metered into the engine for improved convenience and reliability.



Yamaha YG1 Model History

The Yamaha YG1 formed part of Yamaha’s early expansion into lightweight motorcycles during the 1960s. Known for its reliability, simplicity and advanced two-stroke design, the model helped build Yamaha’s reputation for innovative engineering. Features such as rotary valve induction and automatic oil injection were considered advanced for small-capacity motorcycles at the time and contributed to Yamaha’s success in both road motorcycles and later racing developments.

Vendor advises this example presents as a very nice older restoration and is described as 100% correct. The motorcycle is reported to run well and has been fitted with a new battery, with the lights and electrics working. Its restored presentation and originality make it a charming example of Yamaha’s early lightweight motorcycles.
