Description:

1970 Suzuki TS250

Here is a bike that deserves a lot more attention than most people give it. The 1970 Suzuki TS250 was one of the machines that genuinely invented the dual-sport category as we know it, and the very early examples like this one are the ones collectors are chasing now.

This is a first-series TS250, produced in the opening year of the TS range. Suzuki got the formula right from the start: a punchy 250cc single-cylinder two-stroke with CCI oil injection (no more mixing cans of premix), a proper 5-speed gearbox, and lightweight construction that let you have genuine fun both on and off the road. The TS250 outsold almost everything in its class in the early 1970s and became a benchmark that everyone else was measuring against.

This example presents in striking metallic green with the original white pinstripes intact and glossy. The chrome is bright across the front fender, rear fender, and shock absorbers. The twin Nippon Seiki gauges have been photographed close-up and clearly show 2,249 miles on the odometer, which is extraordinary for a 55-year-old trail bike. The engine cases are nicely polished, the winged Suzuki tank badge is original and correct, and the seat has been re-covered in diamond-quilted black vinyl that looks fresh. The upswept scrambler-style exhaust is all there, mounted and intact.

The chain shows some surface discolouration from age and the tyres retain their block pattern but will need replacement due to rubber hardening, which is standard for any bike that has sat this long. These are minor service items, not restoration jobs.

This is the kind of machine a serious collector of Japanese two-strokes or dual-sport history simply has to have. It sits comfortably as a display piece, a show bike, or a lightly-ridden weekend rider after basic recommissioning. Good examples of early TS250s are genuinely getting harder to find in this kind of overall condition.
