Description:

1975 Moto Guzzi 850 T3

Here is a Moto Guzzi that actually earns the word 'classic' rather than just being old. The 850 T3 is one of the definitive expressions of Guzzi's big-block transverse V-twin formula, the engine layout that the brand still uses today and has been refining since the late 1960s. Born from the same lineage as the police Californianos that patrolled Italian autostradas, the 850 T3 brought shaft drive, a five-speed gearbox, and that unmistakable torquey lope to the long-distance touring market at a time when most rivals still had chain drive and four-speed boxes.

This 1975 example has been treated to a quality cosmetic refresh that presents very well in the metal. The tank and bodywork carry fresh black paint with crisp red twin stripes, deep and glossy with no visible orange peel, runs, or chips. The Borrani alloy rims are a standout feature, correct for the model and looking sharp on these photos. New seat cover in dark ribbed vinyl is well-fitted and taut. The upgraded handlebar switch assemblies are a sensible and reliability-improving modification, as anyone who has dealt with original 1970s Italian switchgear will appreciate.

The engine presents with honest, naturally patinated alloy cases and valve covers. Both the 'MOTO GUZZI' script valve covers and the Dell'Orto carburettors look as they should: used but not neglected. No wet oil leaks are visible. The shaft drive, left-hand gear change, and linked braking system all appear intact. Chrome downpipes are bright and clean.

The instruments are the original Veglia Borletti pair with the odometer showing 30,285 miles, a plausible figure for this type of long-touring machine. The gauges haven't been refaced or replaced, lending credibility to the reading.

Vendor describes it as matching numbers with a new battery, new paint, recovered seat, new switch assemblies, and correct Borrani rims. A minor note: the rectangular mirrors appear to be modern aftermarket items rather than original round units. The steering head area shows some surface rust around the VIN plate that was not addressed during the cosmetic work. The black-finished mufflers may be replacements rather than original Guzzi units.

This is a very solid, usable, and attractive Italian touring classic that will reward a collector or rider who appreciates real character. Shaft drive, V-twin grunt, Italian soul. The kind of bike that gets longer looks than most Ducatis. Perfect for the European classic enthusiast, the Guzzi faithful, or anyone who wants a properly different touring bike with genuine history.
