The Bertone X1/9 is one of those rare cars where the engineering and the styling arrived at exactly the same answer. Giorgetto Giugiaro's wedge profile from 1972 aged remarkably well, the targa roof packs away cleanly into the front compartment, and the mid-engine layout delivers balance and handling that defies the car's budget origins. Production ran under Fiat branding from 1972 through to 1982, then continued under Bertone's own nameplate through to 1989.
