Description

"Riverside Village" is a large-format original oil painting by Vietnamese artist Minh Dung. The composition presents a Mekong Delta or riverside village scene from an elevated perspective, drawing the eye diagonally from the lower left across a sandy tidal riverbank to the wide, mist-softened river that fills the upper portion of the canvas. Stilt houses and modest homes in muted greys and rusted browns cling to the bank at lower left, surrounded by lush tropical vegetation - deep green shrubs, trailing vines, and bright flowering plants. A stone stairway descends toward the water. At the centre, a wooden sampan with a traditional woven canopy rests beached on the sandbar, with mooring stakes driven into the sand nearby. Water hyacinth floats in several clusters across the river surface. In the far upper right, a second cluster of floating or stilt houses recedes into atmospheric haze, giving the scene real depth.


The work is executed in a realist-impressionist style with confident impasto passages in the foreground sandbank and vegetation. The palette is anchored by soft blue-greys, warm ochres, and vibrant greens, creating a balanced, restful composition that rewards time spent looking at it.
