2001 China 5 Yuan - 90th Anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution Commemorative Coin Presentation Set 2001 People's Republic of China 5 Yuan brass commemorative coin. 90th anniversary of the 1911 Xinhai Revolution. Complete with original decorative presentation booklet featuring historical map, biography of Sun Yat-sen, and coin technical descriptions. Sealed in original packaging. Mint condition. Description The Xinhai Revolution of 1911 was one of the most consequential events in modern Chinese history. The uprising that began in Wuchang on 10 October 1911 overthrew the Qing Dynasty, ended over two thousand years of imperial rule in China, and led to the founding of the Republic of China with Sun Yat-sen as provisional president. In 2001, the People's Republic of China issued this commemorative coin to mark the 90th anniversary of the revolution. The coin is a brass 5 Yuan circulating commemorative, featuring the PRC national emblem (Tiananmen Gate with wheat wreath and five stars) on the obverse, inscribed "Zhonghua Renmin Gongheguo" (People's Republic of China) and dated 2001. The reverse depicts an open history book containing the Wuchang Uprising relief sculpted on the Monument to the People's Heroes in Tiananmen Square, with the inscriptions "Xinhai Geming" (Xinhai Revolution), "5 Yuan," and "90 Zhou Nian" (90th Anniversary). The coin incorporates latent image anti-counterfeiting technology: tilting the reverse reveals "1911" from the left and "2001" from the right, while micro-text "Xinhai" and "Geming" (Revolution) is visible under magnification on either side of the latent image area. The presentation booklet is a substantial publication with a beige/tan cover featuring a portrait statue of Sun Yat-sen, a watermark background portrait, an illustration of the Wuchang Revolutionary headquarters, and the calligraphic title characters "Xin Hai Ge Ming" (Xinhai Revolution) with red seal stamps. Inside, the left pages carry a biographical account of Sun Yat-sen in Chinese, tracing his childhood studies, his petition to Li Hongzhang, his debates with the constitutional monarchists, and the outbreak of revolution in October 1911. The right pages display the coin against a reproduction of a historical map of China showing the provinces that joined the revolution, with uprising location markers. Full technical descriptions of the coin's obverse, reverse, and anti-counterfeiting features are provided in Chinese on the final right page. Sun Yat-sen is a figure respected across both the People's Republic of China and Taiwan, and this set reflects that shared heritage. The complete set is in mint condition, sealed in its original plastic wrap.
