Description

Issued in 1993, this aluminium-bronze one dollar coin was part of a collaboration between the Royal Australian Mint, Landcare Australia, and BBC Hardware to raise funds for the national Clean Rivers water quality program. The BBC Hardware coincard is one of several release formats for this issue and represents the most collectible presentation of the Landcare dollar from that year.



The card features an illustrated Australian riparian ecosystem scene with a platypus, kingfisher, water dragon, frogs, and native grasses rendered in vivid greens and blues. The Landcare Australia, Royal Australian Mint, and BBC Hardware logos appear at the bottom alongside the program text explaining the Clean Rivers initiative. The coin is mounted in a clear blister sealed to the card, appearing uncirculated and in full original luster.



The coin reverse features the Landcare design reflecting the "Water is Life" environmental message of the program. The obverse carries the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Queen Elizabeth II with the 1993 date. The entire package remains sealed and presents in excellent condition.



A piece of Australian environmental and retail history from the early 1990s. The Landcare movement was at its cultural peak in 1993 and BBC Hardware was one of the most recognised retail chains of the era.
