Overview

A substantial certified cat's eye quartz cabochon from Sri Lanka, weighing 9.18 carats and supported by a current gemological certificate from Bangkok International Gemlab (BIGL). The stone displays genuine chatoyancy (the cat's eye effect), visible across multiple photo angles and most clearly defined under directed single-source lighting (see Photo 3). The body color is a pale yellowish green with a silky, softly luminous character typical of fibrous quartz.



Important species note: this is Natural Quartz with chatoyancy, classified as Quartz Cat's Eye. It is a different and more abundant species than chrysoberyl cat's eye, which is the rarer and more expensive gem also called "cat's eye" in fine jewellery contexts. The price and characteristics here reflect quartz species, not chrysoberyl. The BIGL certificate clearly confirms the identification as "NATURAL QUARTZ (CAT'S EYE)."



At 9.18 carats, this is a generous size for a loose cat's eye quartz cabochon, well above the typical trade sizes. The oval cabochon is well-proportioned with a moderately high dome appropriate to the fibrous material, and fiber orientation is correctly positioned to show the eye band consistently. Chatoyancy is genuine and clearly present; the grade is commercial to good commercial, with the eye band moderately defined rather than razor-sharp, and body color pale rather than deeply saturated. These characteristics are consistent with the material type and the certificate findings. Small iron-oxide spots are visible on the stone surface in close-up; these are natural features of the material.
