Collection of Cricket Books - Approximately 30-35 Volumes Including Bradman and Bodyline Facsimile Reprint Series Approximately 30-35 cricket books in hardcover and paperback formats. Includes a matched four-volume facsimile reprint series featuring Don Bradman's own memoir, two Jack Fingleton titles, and C.B. Fry. Also includes Jardine's Bodyline account, Brearley's Phoenix from the Ashes, and Wisden Cricketers' Almanack (1994 edition). Good to very good condition throughout. Description The headline item in this collection is a matched set of four volumes from what appears to be a specialist cricket facsimile reprint series, all in uniform green cloth binding with cream spine labels: "Farewell to Cricket" by Don Bradman, "Cricket Crisis" by Jack Fingleton, "The Ashes Crown the Year" by Jack Fingleton, and "Life Worth Living" by C.B. Fry. "Farewell to Cricket" is Bradman's own account of his career and retirement, written with the precision and clarity that characterised everything he did on and off the field. Fingleton played against Bodyline as a member of the 1932-33 Australian Test side and later became one of cricket's finest journalists - both his titles here are authoritative first-hand perspectives on the most controversial period in Anglo-Australian cricket. C.B. Fry was one of the most remarkable men cricket has ever produced: a Test cricketer, an athlete who held the world long jump record, a journalist, and a man once offered the throne of Albania. Douglas Jardine's "In Quest of the Ashes" sits alongside the Fingleton books and completes a remarkable primary source collection on the Bodyline series. This is the captain's own account of the 1932-33 tour that forever changed the relationship between England and Australian cricket. Reading it alongside Fingleton's "Cricket Crisis" - the opposing perspective from a player who faced Larwood's bowling - gives a uniquely complete picture of events that are still argued about 90 years later. Mike Brearley's "Phoenix from the Ashes" covers another defining Ashes series: the 1981 summer when Botham's Headingley innings and Willis's 8/43 produced the most dramatic reversal in Test cricket history. The Wisden Cricketers' Almanack 131st Edition (1994) is present with its distinctive yellow spine - the first Wisden of the post-Border Australian era, covering the summer before the team's long dominance began. Additional titles include Simon Barnes's "Phil Edmonds: A Singular Man" (Faber and Faber), "The Faber Book of Cricket" edited by Michael Davie and Simon Davie, Charles Williams's "Bradman" biography (Abacus), Tim Heald's "Denis Compton: The Authorized Biography" (Pavilion Books), the two Henry Blofeld volumes, "The Cricketer's Companion" edited by Alan Ross (Eyre Methuen), "A Lot of Hard Yakka" by Simon Hughes (Headline), Allan Donald's "White Lightning" autobiography (Collins Willow), "Jack Hobbs" by Ronald Mason, "The Don Meets the Babe" by Ric Sissons (a fascinating comparative study of Bradman and Babe Ruth), and "Tales from a Long Room" by Peter Tinniswood. There is also a blue-spined autobiography with what appears to be a gold signature visible on the cover - buyers are encouraged to inspect in person to identify and assess this volume. At specialist dealer prices the replacement cost of this collection runs to AUD $500-$1,500 or more.
