Neville Cardus, whose "Autobiography" is included here, wrote about cricket the way others write about music - with feeling, precision, and a genuine love for the game. John Arlott, represented by "Arlott on Cricket" edited by David Rayvern Allen (Collins Willow), spent decades making cricket on the radio sound like poetry. C.L.R. James, whose collected cricket writing is present in the Allison and Busby edition, produced what many regard as the most intellectually serious book about cricket ever written.
