1970 Holden LC GTR Torana
The LC GTR Torana marked Holden’s first step into building a true performance version of its compact sedan, setting the stage for the legendary XU-1. With its 186ci six-cylinder engine, 4-speed manual gearbox and distinctive styling, the GTR quickly became a favourite among enthusiasts and laid the groundwork for Holden’s Bathurst success in the years to follow.
This example is a genuine LC GTR, factory finished in the standout colour Indy Orange. It has been fitted with a half roll cage and currently sits on reproduction alloy Sprint wheels, giving it a purposeful stance. The car also features a modified engine bay, aftermarket dash and rear seat. Restored over 10 years ago, it presents as a very straight and tidy example, though the vendor advises it requires a new wiring harness. Only two identification plates remain on the car, with the ADR tag missing.
LC GTR Torana History
The LC Torana, released in 1969, brought a new level of style and performance to Holden’s small car lineup. The GTR model featured the 186ci six-cylinder engine, front disc brakes, sportier trim and unique styling touches that set it apart. It became an instant success, both on the road and the racetrack, and provided the foundation for the even more focused GTR XU-1. Today, LC GTRs are highly regarded for their role in starting the Torana performance legend and remain a desirable collector’s car.
