2006 Umamu Estate, Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, WA(Offered by the case of 12 x 750ml bottles)"Mid gold and fresh looking. Lightness on the nose. Mouth filling is lighter but in balance and nice coating in the mouth. Pleasant and nothing sticks out at you. Subtle flavours coming through. 52% Semillon 48% Sauvignon Blanc. This is softer compared with the 2005 SSB, understandably as the 2006 vintage is the coolest we have had in Margaret River. Wines were very delicate and restrained from the cooler ripening season. The SSBs have semillon dominance and show a different style which is softer and more elegant and less racy." Huon Hooke 17-May-19 SBS 2016 Sweaty and passionfruit tropical nuances; a hint of nuttiness suggests a subtle barrel input. Herby, too. Intense but light-bodied and fresh, crisp, with lively acidity. At three years old, it's ageing slowly. A$28 90Huon Hooke 25-Nov-19 SBS 2016 Light yellow colour with a herbal, snowpea and slightly tom-catty grassy/thiol character. There are also nutty barrel and toasty bottle-age characteristics. The wine is rich and intense, and really fills the mouth. It's soft, round and ample. The vegetal notes are turning into honey already. A wine with plenty of appeal. 91Halliday 13 Halliday 2018 Edition 9-Sep-16 SBS 2016 More delicate than many in its price/region/style category, and none the worse for that. Gentle tropical and stone fruits sit alongside citrussy acidity, the acidity, too, in balance. 12% alc $24 91Sydney Int Wine Comp 1 Sydney International Wine Competition 2017 1-Dec-16 SBS 2016 Blue-Gold Award Blue-GoldLangton's Margaret River Wine Show 2018 2018 Not stated SBS 2016 Bronze Medal Bronzethe3winesmen Blog 7-Oct-19 SBS 2016While I'd had a case of wine writers block during this little interesting period, I've looked toward an old favourite to help me bust out of my slump and get my taste buds dancing in joy. Why choose Umamu? Well it's pretty easy. They make wine buying and drinking easy. Release the wine when it's right to drink. How hard is that? Why aren't more wineries doing this? Why settle for less than this? Now this little gem. The first thing you notice is the balance. No sharp acidity, no citrus smack and everything in its place. Such a fruit salad here. Peach, nectarine, rockmelon and hints of asparagus and mild oak. A simple choice to pair with my very own Seafood Risotto recipe. Why gamble on wine when Umamu made it a one wine race. No rating
